Have a great year and enjoy your gardens
I have operated my own gardening business since 1975 and began designing in 1985. I have worked on many different projects from small private gardens to much larger projects for private Clients, Housing Associations, Schools and for TVam, the Television Company, when I designed and built a roof garden at the Bradford Photographic Museum, adjacent to their studio.
Through this work I have gained many skills from groundwork to knowledge of horticulture, consultation with clients and construction companies, project management and accountancy.
To gain further knowledge of design I took a BA (Hons) degree course at Leeds Metropolitan University in Garden Art and Design. This was a six year, part time course and I graduated in July 2004.
The course enhanced my knowledge greatly especially with regard to design. I also had the opportunity to learn more on detailed photography, which included developing and computer graphics. I have held four Exhibitions in the Leeds area which has resulted in private commissions.
I chose to study Japanese gardens for my Thesis and travelled with the Japanese garden Society to Japan in the autumn of 2002. I now lecture on the subject to Societies and Organisations.
Working with other Students and Lecturers I gained a tremendous insight into the course and wanted to impart my knowledge to others who were just beginning as Students and in the profession. To that end I joined the Landscape Architect team at the University and worked there for 7 years. During that time I was very pleased to be involved in RHS shows at Harrogate, Hampton Court and Chelsea. I now work full time as a private Garden Designer and sell my photographs privately.
After nearly 30 years in the profession I am still passionate about my work, have gained and wish to pass on my experience whilst still learning from others.
